Thigh Lift

Who is it for?
Many people are unhappy with the effects that aging, heredity, and/or major weight loss have had on their thighs. Often, the thigh skin and tissue lack elasticity to conform to a person’s shape, resulting in a sagging, wrinkled appearance. A thigh lift procedure can help correct sagging excess skin on the inner and outer thighs, and is often combined with other lift procedures. While some fat may be removed during a thigh lift procedure, its purpose is not fat loss. If you are interested in fat loss, Dr. Nguyen may recommend liposuction. If you live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and would like to learn more about the thigh lift procedure, contact Dr. Nguyen’s Arlington office at (817) 468-7000.

How does it work?

  • For a medial (inner) thigh lift, Dr. Nguyen will make an incision in your groin area. If your case permits, he will confine the incision to that area. For patients who need more extensive lifting, the incision will run from the groin area to the back of the thigh. After making the incision he will reposition, tighten, and remove tissue as needed. He will then drape the skin back over the affected area, trimming away any excess. He will then close the incision with sutures.
  • For an outer thigh lift, Dr. Nguyen will make an incision from your groin area, up and around your hip. After making the incision he will reposition, tighten, and remove tissue as needed. He will then drape the skin back over the affected area, trimming away any excess. He will then close the incision with sutures.

What happens after the procedure?
After your thigh lift surgery, you will need to get plenty of rest and take care of your incisions and drains (small tubes inserted to remove excess fluid from the surgery site). You will likely experience swelling, but Dr. Nguyen will give you special compression garments to reduce it and support your thighs. Dr. Nguyen will give you specific instructions for recovery, including when to come in for follow-up visits to remove your drains and sutures, when you can go back to work, and when you can resume normal exercise and other activities. You will have scars from your surgery, but most thigh lift patients find the scar preferable to sagging skin and excess fat.
